The international pear congress will take place on June 28-29, 2023, in Lérida in Spain’s Catalonia region. The early bird rate has been extended up to 15 June. So now is the time to register to this event that will bring together pear producers, experts, researchers, and marketers from around Europe to discuss the most pressing issues facing the pear industry today, and in particular, climate change.
The conference program will feature a range of presentations, round table discussions aimed at providing insights. On June 29, attendees will hear about the European pear harvest forecast for 2023 by main production country. A round table with experts from Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and France will also take place to discuss the pear market’s evolution.
The conference will also feature presentations on global climate change and its impact on the pear industry. Antonio Ruiz de Elvira, a physics professor at Alcalà de Henares University will explain why the climate is changing.
Participants can then expect to learn about three climate change adaptation projects: Belgium’s “Q-Pear: high quality pear in a changing climate,” France’s “Means of improving the environmental behavior of the pear throughout its circuit in the supply chain,” and Spain’s “New pear varieties adapted to climate change.”
Interpera will also include two sessions of technical visits of the Qtee pear plantation and headquarters of Fruites Font, plus the Elliot pear plantation of Nufri. They will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the cultivation and management of pear orchards in Catalonia. The objective of the visits is to show the innovation in the cultivation of pears and the incorporation of sustainable measures and the uses of new technologies.
