“Cuts” and production of German cars.

The German Automobile Manufacturers Association (VDA) cut production estimates for the year, attributing the result to supply chain hurdles and a disappointing first-quarter recovery.

The union said it expects production to increase 13% to 4 million vehicles, up from a previous estimate of 20% increase to 4.2 million vehicles.

The industry has recovered significantly from last year’s lows at the start of the pandemic, with new passenger car registrations boosting 90% year-on-year in April.

The volumes, however, remain lower than the level of 2019.
